Genelia D’Souza is a new Bollywood Actress. Before enter into the Bollywood, Genelia acted in a few films in Tamil, Telegu and Kannada. Any way we can’t call Genelia a new face to the Bollywood. Because, Genelia acted in a few Bollywood films in photos from Bollywood Films in the year 2003 and 2004. Mere Baap Pehali Aap & Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na are the recent Bollywood films of Genelia. It’s my life and Life Partner are the coming films of Genelia in the Bollywood.
Genelia D'Souza was born on August 5, 1987 in Mumbai. Genelia grew up in Mumbai and recognizes herself as a Mangalorean Catholic.[1][3] Genelia studied at St. Teresa High School in Santacruz, Mumbai. She joined St. Andrews College, Bandra to pursue her Bachelor's Degree of Management Studies.[2] She first hit the limelight with a Parker Pen commercial starring along side Amitabh Bachchan and further did a Fair and Lovely ad appearing along side Srikanth. The ace Tamil director, Shankar was very much impressed with her performance in both the ads and cast her in a leading role in his Tamil version of "Boys" in 2003. Other than doing films, she was also a state level athlete and a national level player [4]
Genelia made her debut in Bollywood in 2003. Her first Hindi film was Tujhe Meri Kasam opposite Ritesh Deshmukh. The film went unnoticed. She left Bollywood for a while to concentrate on the Tollywood industry. Genelia then starred in the Tamil big budget film Boys directed by Shankar. The film was a box-office hit and launched her career in south India.
She went on to star in other successful Telugu films including, Satyam, Samba and Sye. She followed it up with a pairing with actor Venkatesh in Subhash Chandra Bose. She returned to the Tamil industry with Sachein with Vijay. It was average at the box office. Her second Hindi movie was Masti and was also opposite Ritesh. This film was a moderate success.
Her Telugu film, Bommarillu, with Siddharth Narayan, was a major commercial and critical success and she won the Filmfare Award as the Best Actress for her performance, besides other awards. She was also a part of Mani Ratnam's stage show, Netru, Indru, Naalai. She came back into Kollywood with Santhosh Subramaniam, which is the remake of Bommarillu. The film also turned out to be a rather successful as its predecessor. Her debut film in Kannada Satya In Love grossed 4 crores in its opening week thus setting a new record in the Kannada film industry.
Genelia D'Souza had so far been seen as an actress who had failed to make her presence felt in bollywood. However, now with two back-to-back films - Mere Baap Pehle Aap and Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na - she seems to be ready to go now.
But what was the reason that kept her away from Bollywood for so long? Though she has been a part of the film industry for almost five years, she had just two Bollywood releases, "Well, films were not on my agenda. When they happened, it took me a while to realize where I was heading towards. Initially it was just the excitement of being a star. After having done a few films, I have fallen in love with the industry," she says.
