Ek Niranjan

Ek Niranjan is an upcoming Telugu film starring Prabhas Raju Uppalapati and Kangana Ranaut in lead roles. This is the second film in the combination of the director and Prabhas, as they had together worked earlier for Bujjigadu. Produced by Aditya Ram and directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film has been shot on a special set erected for the film in Hyderabad and will shoot in Bangkok and songs has been shot in Switzerland. The movie began shooting in April and will end in September. The movie is expected to release on October 29 2009.

Puri Jagganadh and Prabhas worked together for the movie Bujjigadu which was an average score in the box-office, Puri decided to do the duo again for Ek Niranjan. His character is dynamic, rough and tough guy and a loner. [2] Kangana Ranaut, who is popular in Bollywood films, is making her debut in the Tollywood industry. Her character is said to be a guitar teacher. It was also said that she is acting in the film for a very big price of 1 crore. Sonu Sood will essay the villain in the film. The film is described to be a commercial entertainer mixed with romance and comedy to appeal to the audience.

Ek Niranjan began shooting on March 31 in Lahari resorts and a spacious area on Road No. 25, Jubilee Hills, a part of Hyderabad which was recreated for the film. Art director Chinna and his team brought a natural look to their creations — a clock tower, a four road junction, by lanes, a Hanuman temple, and dhobi ghat including house sets for the lead pair. [4] Around June, they left for Switzerland for the canning of two songs on Prabhas and Kangana Ranaut. After shooting in Switzerland till June 30, the film began to film the final phase of shooting in July in Bangkok and Pattaya where the climax was shot at. The film completed in September. The audio of the movie was released on 25 September at Shilpakala Vedika and the music has already gotten good reviews. The music is done by Mani Sharma who also did the music for Billa.

‘A Wednesday’ is Kamal Haasan’s ‘Eenadu’

Adjoining hands UTV productions, Kamal Haasan’s Rajkamal films will produce the remake of Hindi blockbuster ‘A Wednesday’ in Telugu and Tamil.
Enacted by Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah in Hindi, Kamal Haasan and Mohan Lal will be reiterating the roles in Tamil. The thriller drama will be made in Telugu titled ‘Eenadu’ as stated by Kamal in a recent meet. Further details will be announced by producer Rama Naidu who will be teaming up with RajKamal films for this production venture.

Earlier, Venkatesh was invited by Kamal for a prominent role in his shelved film ‘Marmayogi’. But, true to his words, he will cast Venky in a prominent role. Some say he will replace Anupam Kher’s role for Telugu version instead of Mohan Lal but it’s yet to be confirmed.
Chakri will direct the film. Art director Thota Tharani is supervising the construction of a set at Hyderabad for the shoot to begin.

Naga Chaitanya It is difficult to believe that Dil Raju the man with a golden hand and a producer who is blessed with the quality of judging moviegoer's pulse correctly and has delivered so many hit films can actually become instrumental in selecting a story that is clichéd for the launch of Nagarjuna's son. What's even more worse is roping in a director who has messed up the film, he has not only not highlighted one single quality in the hero but disappointed the audiences with a very ordinary approach to direction. There are occasions like this when one misses having a reputed, happening, well-versed director who would add and lend his experience to filmmaking. There could be a chance of such a film misfiring too but then atleast you know he had worked on giving a 'pro-active' image of the hero.

Josh has nothing outstanding or even average to offer, it's a poor debut for all the newcomers. The only dialogue that is sensible is when Prakashraj tells Chaitanya that 'college paatam cheppi pareeksha pedthundi, jeevitham pareeksha petti paatam nerputhundi.' Naga Chaitanya is confined to being shown as serious and his dances and fights are normal.

The film opens with Satya (Naga Chaitanya) quitting studies and wanting to go to Hyderabad. Why he wants to go to Hyderabad is revealed in the second half of the story. The film is boring and doesn't move, if it moves you know what happens next. Dialogues are silly, hardly makes an impact.

Naga Chaitanya might take a while to get a foothold in TFI which is not at all a difficult job but till then Josh will remain as an embarrassing debut for him and also for the heroine. There is absolutely no chemistry between the lead pair and the hero is short by industry standards.

If you are curious to watch the newcomers perform, wait till it comes on your cable TV.

A treasure lays buried deep at the bottom of an ocean. There are many people who want to get there by risking life, be it theirs or someone else’s.
‘Blue’ is touted as Bollywood’s first underwater, action adventure thriller. Directed by Anthony D'Souza , the movie is inspired from Hollywood flicks like ‘The Deep’ or ‘Jaws’, but it is not a copy.
The film is about a lost treasure, which three friends try to find undersea. Akshay Kumar , Sanjay Dutt and Zayed Khan play the respective roles.
But in this hunt for the treasure, there’s deceit and betrayal by someone in the group.
Lara Dutta is paired with Sanjay Dutt in the film. The actress did not know deep sea diving before signing the film and underwent a rigorous Scuba diving training to prepare for her role.
The movie’s second heroine Katrina Kaif doesn’t have a big role. But director D’Souza says Kat will surprise the audiences with her role. Sunil Shetty also has a brief role in the film.
While shooting one such stunt under water, Akshay Kumar had a narrow escape when he accidentally hit his head against the metal of a sunken ship and began bleeding. Blood attracted the sharks, but before any mishap could happen, the actor was safely pulled above water.
To tone up his muscles, Sanjay Dutt hired the services of a special body building trainer from the US – Lawrence Gonsalves, who guided the actor on losing his former beefy body and developing a leaner physique.

Special water-resistant make-up was required for the film’s leading lady Lara Dutta. For that the producers roped in Hollywood make up artist Nikoletta Skarlatos.
‘Blue’ also feature a special appearance by Australian pop sensation Kylie Minogue who has not only sung for the film but also shot a sizzling video with Akshay Kumar.
Oscar winner A R Rahman has composed the tunes of the film’s songs. In fact, Kylie Minogue agreed to sing and dance to her song in the film because she was captivated by Rahman’s composition.
The movie apparently also has an underwater song picturized on the entire cast.
With a budget of over Rs 100 crores, ‘Blue’ is touted as Bollywood’s most expensive film to date. Made under the banner of Shri Ashtavinayak Cinevision, the movie is set to release in May, 2009.

Mallanna – Review

Versatile actor Vikram has become very popular among the Telugu audiences with his film Aparichitudu. After a long gap, Vikram is playing hero, in a Tamil film Kandhasamy which has been simultaneously made in Telugu under the title Mallanna, with Shreya in the female lead.

Mallanna (Vikram) is a CBI officer working in the economic offences wing. Heworks under a joint director called Krishna Rao (Krishna). Because of his official position, he can find out those who are amassing wealth and Mallanna uses his intelligence to find such money and donate it to the people. For this, he chooses the devotional path as the Hindus are very religious and believe that God would come to their rescue whenever they face problems. He manages to propagate a gossip that whoever faces problems, can write their problem on a chit and tie the same to a tree. Sooner, the person’s problem would be solved. For this, Mallanna takes the help of eight of his friends who are experts in different fields and at the same time, work in one or the other of the economic offences-related departments.

In the process, he manages to conduct raid on a millionaire (Ashish Vidyarthi) and finds black money. But, the millionaire’s daughter Subbalakshmi (Shriya) vows to take revenge against Mallanna and teases him in the name of love. Mallanna too plays the drama. Due to certain lapses in the plans, Mallanna gets caught by the police and he is forced to accept that he as been playing the drama. But, the police official who arrests him is a puppet in the hands of the millionaire, whom Mallanna raided. So that millionaire puts a proposal that he will not reveal the secret to any one on a condition that Mallanna would share 50 per cent of what all he robs from anyone.

Mallanna accepts the proposal and wants the millionaire to send him to Mexico on a fake passport so that he could collect the money of on another millionaire there and ask him to give his bank account number in Mexico so that he could deposit the entire money there. As per the plan Mallanna collects money and deposits the money in the millionaire’s account there. Later, he asks Subbalakshmi to check the deposit in their account and inform her dad. After Subbalakshmi opens the online account and reveals to her father that the money has been deposited, Mallanna cracks that password and transfers the entire money back into his account.

Finally, that millionaire tries to take a revenge against Mallanna by giving the tape where he had recorded Mallanna's confession. However, Krishna Rao, who knew Mallanna's activities destroys the evidence. Finally, Mallanna, raids another big shot called AP Pedda Manishi and brings out the black money he stored in his bus. However, the police again arrests Mallanna for robbing the economic offenders. There is no evidence that Mallanna helped the people in the form of money. At the same time, the people who lost the money do not lodge any complaint about the theft. So, the court relieves him as there is no proof of his misdeeds, though it is clear that he admitted the fact on his own.

Anjaneyulu – Review

Films are of different genre so as the filmgoers. After giving a blockbuster like Kick, the audiences in general and the fans of Ravi Teja have been eagerly looking for the next movie with lots of expectations. Anjaneyulu did not disappoint the audiences as it has all kinds of elements expected from Ravi Teja’s film.
Anjaneyulu (Raviteja), the son of headmaster Krishnamurthy (Nazar), is an average student at school. Krishnamurthy and his wife always encourage and pamper him. After completing his education, Anjaneyulu gets the job as a director in a television channel, as the proprietor (Jeeva) of the channel was the student of Krishnamurthy. He enjoys his life as it comes. Anjaneyulu and Krishnamurthy move like friends.
Once Anjaneyulu comes across Anjali (Nayantara) who works with a mobile service provider. He loses his heart at first sight and slowly they fall in love. Anjaneyulu informs his parents and they reach Hyderabad to fix the alliance. While returning to their native place, they are burnt alive in an accidental fire mishap. However, Anjaneyulu learns that it was not an accident but a cold blooded murder perpetrated by several big heads like home minister (Dandapani) and MLA (Jayaprakash Reddy), with the help of a local mafia don Bada (Sonu Sood).

In fact, a journalist (Sameer) prepares a big file with all evidences on the illegal activities of the Home Minister and wants to submit it to the chief minister. The Home Minister orders Bada to kill him upon a condition that it should not look like a murder as it might throw light on him. Learning this, Anjaneyulu decides to take a revenge on Bada and the other politicians and joins Bada's group as a goon and finally executes his plan and kills everyone. However, the interesting point here is that Anjaneyulu tells Anjali that he did not kill them for revenge, but decided to kill them only to satiate his sorrow, as his parents did not die out of old age or of some disease and lost life without enjoying their life with son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. In the climax, Anjaneyulu hands over all the evidence he gathered to prove that the Home Minister, MLA, several other officials who assisted them were corrupt and the film ends on a happy note.

Movie Review: Magadheera

THE FILM Magadheera has hit screens and is all set to be a blockbuster in 2009. Charan plays the role of Kalabhairava, a warrior general of the 16th century, while Kajal plays the role of Mira, his queen. Both love each other but the warrior never expresses his love for her. Meanwhile, Mitra is also desired by her relative Randev (Devgill) who is the commander in chief of Udaygarh. Before his death, he succeeds in separating Mitra from Bhairava. The story then moves to present times when Harsha(Charan), an avid biker, is enjoying his life to the fullest. History repeats itself when one rainy day, his hand brushes against that of Indu (Kajal) and he realises that there is some kind of a bond betwen them. When he eventually manages to see her, he falls in love with her. On the other hand, Randev is again born as Indu's relative.

Will Harsha be successful in love this time? Does Indu know her past? Watch the movie; it's worth every penny. Charan has performed exceptionally well in both roles and has carried off the film very well. Kajal looks seductive, royal and bubbly. Devgill could have performed better. Srihari, Sunil and Brahmi have all performed well and have justified their roles. Last but not the least, Sarath Babu was very graceful in the movie. The saongs are pretty good and the best part of the movie are the graphics and the visual effects. The storyline is interesting and overall, the movie will keep Telegu audiences glued to their seats.

This is a must-watch movie for several reasons including the bike adventure, the set of Udaygarh, the background score, songs like Cheppinder Cheppake, Bangarulodi Pettu and the battle between Bhairava and Sher Khan's soldier.

My lunch comprises Roti, daal, dalia, salad and yoghurt. I prefer fruit juice rather than cold drinks. Review: Kambakkht Ishq is one for the trash bin

The more the level of gimmickry in a film, fewer are the chances of it being watchable. When filmmakers hype the product over Hollywood stars, a bikini scene, or the location; you can be sure the film’s got nothing. And Kambakkht Ishq confirms this fear.
Yes, it’s been shot in Hollywood, there’s a scene in Kodak Theater (the Oscars venue), and Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh make appearances. But to hell with such gimmicks when sitting through the film is such torture.
Akshay Kumar who needs a hit after several debacles, reprises his role as the chauvinist playboy after Garam Masala and Heyy Babyy. The cliché of a leading man who beds numerous women, mostly foreigners (the audience, they reckon, will feel no guilt as westerners are loose anyway, right?), falling for the only woman who isn’t affected by his charms; and the two finally ending together is ballistic.

For, if you were to sit and think for a minute; why would, and how can, a person of sound mind, which Kareena’s character apparently is, voluntarily want to be with a foul-mouthed Casanova? See, this film thrives on stereotypes: so to offset our stuntman lothario Viraj (Akshay), we have a man-hating frigid Simrita (their words, not mine!) played by Kareena. Once during an argument, Viraj threatens to shut her up and kisses her forcibly. One wanted to walk out just that moment, but for the job that requires a full viewing. Simrita, who is ambitious and alive, modelling to pay for medical school, whimpers something and huffs off.
Throughout the film then, there are songs where her personal space is intruded in the name of ched-chaad (eve-teasing). He even asks her threateningly, “You want to know how low a stuntman can get?” She calls him a dog; he calls her a bitch. He tells her that since she’s not falling for him, she must be a lesbian. You truly empathize with Simrita, because for a support-system, she has a sister and an aunt who keep hoping she’ll get married, even if it is to this creepy womanizer.

Meanwhile, Viraj and Simrita get embroiled in a situation involving her watch that goes missing. Under the influence of an accidental spiked drink, she sheds her clothes to sing a seductive song (Bebo main bebo, dil mera le lo) for Viraj. When he makes out with her, but does not have intercourse, he is portrayed as a paragon of virtue. Never mind, that she woke up in the morning with only a bed-sheet around her.
He realizes he’s in love. When Simrita refuses his proposal for marriage; Viraj, in keeping with his character’s loutish behavior, asks one of his casual girlfriends to marry him (Denise Richards, wow). This act ignites feelings of affection in Simrita (yes, that’s how peculiar the film is) who then apologizes to Viraj for “her habit of taking her own decisions”.
Writer-director Sabir Khan’s execution is devoid of subtlety. The first scene establishing Hollywood is so obvious – bikini-clad women, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, stock shots of Angelina Jolie from the Oscars. There are portions where the film turns crude – the scene where Viraj’s Man Friday (Vindu Dara Singh, unbearable) fantasizes about women in their underwear, or the shot where a speeding car lifts a woman’s skirt to reveal her innerwear. For more such “comedy”, you have Javed Jaffrey and Boman Irani, both utterly wasted.

Akshay brings nothing new to a role that he has enacted a hundred times before. Still, his performance is earnest. Kareena Kapoor is the only sparkler in the entire film – she looks like a trillion bucks and gives a spirited performance.
Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar form a pair that has given several hits before. If Kambakkht Ishq does well, the producer can well thank the cast and the recent strike that has left the audience desperate for a star-studded film. You remember the tagline this film so proudly displays - `that women are good for only two things’? Well, this film is good for only one – the trash bin.

The new smart catch-phrase in post-Obama America is post-racial. Which, to those who’ve suffered slurs in the name of race, is pure bunkum. On the same lines, Prez O’s talk of closing down of Guantanamo Bay is a great gesture, but it will take years before the world forgets why that penitentiary was stuffed with suspected terrorists.Kabir Khan’s ‘New York’ is about three friends impacted by the fallout of 9/11: it was not just the twin towers which were destroyed; a whole way of life died too. Americans began looking at people not of their nationality and religion with hatred and deep suspicion: if they are brown and worshipped Allah, they were terrorists.
Sam aka Samir (John), Omar (Mukesh), and Maya (Katrina) meet as students at New York State U. They hang out on campus, in pubs, but never seem to go to class: just shows that even New Gen directors are reluctant to show heroes getting an education.

In the best Bollywood tradition, this is a triangle: Omar loves Maya who loves Sam. They watch the planes crash into the towers in shock and horror—Omar goes his way, the other two get hitched.Years later, the FBI in the shape of Roshan (Irrfan) surfaces in the threesome’s lives, with a shocking revelation: one of them is the kingpin of a sleeper terrorist organization, and the other has to turn into an FBI informer.

Khan’s subject feels a little old (there’s been a ton of 9/11 related stuff in the last eight years, including Naseerudin’s debut 2006 feature ‘Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota’ ), but it is still relevant. That relevance carries the well-produced, well-photographed film some of its distance: in the way that Samir is detained and tortured for nine months without a shred of evidence (some of the most affecting scenes in the movies), in the way that Omar’s loyalties are never swayed even when he knows which path his friend is treading on, and in the way the Indian FBI operative upholds the values of American democracy even when he knows its loopholes and weakness—these give the film a certain heft.But where it falters is in the way its screenplay turns fluffy—yes, we know it’s Yashraj, and yes, we know that the lovely Kat needs to sing songs along with her hunky co-stars, but it takes away from the necessary tautness a thriller like this requires.

There’s also a remarkable lack of tension even when people are being shot, and bombs are being placed, with the finger a hair-trigger away: Khan’s debut feature ‘Kabul Express’ was much tighter. Of the four actors, Irrfan’s pasta-hating, I-love-America cop is most credible; Neil’s naïve immigrant is a nice turn too. John and Katrina are their usual selves even when transplanted a whole continent away.I came away with a couple of well articulated if not madly original speeches on the value of the kind of freedom which can take a Muslim, or a person of colour, places in America. But at no point did I grip the edge of my seat.

Needless to say, there are lot of visual treats in the movie but will the movie be hit. For most the above four names are enough to bring to halls. Let us see what happens. We all thought it was Shilpa Shetty who was going to dance with Akon at the IPL finals. Shilpa had even put it on her blog. And later had to change the information.
Shilpa says she didn’t get time to rehearse for her performance with Akon. But neither did Katrina who finally went on stage with Akon totally unprepared.
Yes, finally it was the feisty and in-demand Katrina Kaif who joined the R & B legend for the Finals. What was supposed to be a quick entry and exit with Akon on stage to blow kisses at the crowds turned out to be a good ten minutes of hip and hop dancing with one of Katrina’s favourite pop artistes.
Katrina Kaif danced with the American R & B wizard Akon on Sunday night in South Africa…totally unrehearsed. And she isn’t in a hurry to forget the experience.

It wasn’t supposed to happen! the actress was still in a daze the morning after the event. I mean I was supposed to dance to Jai ho with Shiamak Davar. That’s it. I was just supposed to pop up on the stage for the finale to say hello to the crowds.
Minutes before it was supposed to happen Katrina was told she had to dance with Akon on stage.
I was like….zapped! Not only because I was totally not prepared for it. But also because I’m the biggest Akon fan. Just sharing the stage with him would’ve been a dream come true. And there I was dancing with him for a good ten minutes. It was an exhilarating experience, specially since I was representing my country. Ya, it felt good.

And to think she didn’t even know Akon minutes before she went on stage with him. We were introduced seconds before we went on stage together. As we ran to the stage he asked me what we’ll do for the audience. I was numb….and clueless. For ten minutes we just improvised and did what we wanted to. Finally it turned out right.
Katrina is surprised to know Shilpa was supposed to share stage space with Akon. I’ve no idea of this. As far as I know the programme was decided and announced in Bombay Times two weeks before the event. And no one else was on with Akon. Like I said, even I was not supposed to dance with him.

Earlier during the evening Katrina danced to A R Rahman’s anthem Jai ho. “That, I was fully prepared to do. And thanks to Shiamak Davar I did it well. But being on stage with Akon was completely not part of the plan. I guess this is known as wish-fulfilment. I’ve recently started enjoying myself on stage. And I think on Sunday evening that enjoyment connected with the audience.

Kareena Kapoor’s dietician Rujuta Diwekar has come out with a book called Dont Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight and Kareena Kapoor wrote a foreword for the book in which she has herself revealed her breakfast secrets that lead to her size zero figure.
Rujuta has changed my perception towards diets and dieting. She has taught me to eat well, eat right and eat regularly. I started working with her around the time I started work on Tashan. The results are for all to see. My size zero became a topic of national interest. The media asked me if it was diet or exercise. It was a combination of both; 70% diet and 30% exercise-training and yoga, writes Kareena in her foreword.

Rujuta understands my work and lifestyle and has given me a diet totally customised to my needs. My diet on work days is different from my diet on shoot days. It even on varies on shoot days, like it is different if I have to dance or perform. The meal is planned according to my level of activity.
In Mumbai, my breakfast is muesli and milk or a chillah or parathas; no chai or coffee. While shooting for Tashan in Ladakh. I ate fresh fruit for breakfast and thukpas and momos for my other meals. I had pudina tea without milk. On the last day, I was allowed pizza as well. In Kerala, I had idlis and appams. In Italy it was risotto and pasta with gorgonzola; half portions though, not full.

I make sure I eat every two hours. My evening snack or meal is soy milk or a sandwich. Rujuta focuses on nutrition, not calories. Amazingly, she likes to keep the nutritional value of what you eat, as compared to the calories consumed, high. I have learnt what she means when she says, be smart about food and still enjoy what you eat. While searching for his brother in Vizag, Murali comes across Indu (Shreya). Sooner they fall in love with one another. Unexpectedly Murali get entangled in the cobweb of two goons in the city, Ramakrishna (Prakash Raj) and Guru. Murali witnesses a murder perpetrated by Guru and Ramakrishna, Guru's opponent, wants to cash
in on that.

Murali learns from an orphanage that a person by name Rambabu (Sriman) had stayed there for some time and is presently working as an RDO. Once Murali accidentally comes across Rambabu, who is being chased and attacked by Guru.

Rambabu escapes, but Murali gets thrashed instead. Murali recognizes Guru as his brother, before losing his consciousness. After that incident, Ramakrishna attacks Guru and nearly kills him. But Murali comes to his rescue and reveals that he is his younger brother. Murali pleads with Guru to return home. Once Guru recovers, he decides to take revenge upon Ramakrishna, but Murali manages that.

Dia observed a military school like regime, waking up at 5.30 am, working with Tinu for about two hours daily in Film City, another two hours at home and then in the evening again for two more hours.

The rigorous schedule went for three months and the after effects have not only satisfied Dia but also Sanjay himself. Victory may well be revolving around the character of Harman Baweja but Amrita Rao still has great memories of shooting for the film, in particular the parts that were shot on outdoor locations in Rajasthan. After spending quite some time in Jaisalmer, she not just fell in love with the desert dunes but also the traditions, culture and music belonging to this part of the country.
‘’First schedule of the film took place in Rajasthan and it was particularly exciting for me because for the first time ever I was visiting Jaisalmer. I was fascinated with the sheer visual of so much of sand around. Then suddenly I saw people dressed in bright colours which was really contrasting with the background of the place. All the orange and pink colours turned the place into such a delightful watch'’, says Amrita Rao fondly.

She was also particularly impressed by the traditional music that was being played around the shooting locations. ‘’We were shooting at this small temple and it was interesting to see the locals playing a small instrument that seemed to be a ‘taanpoora’. Then there was this old man who was wearing a turban and singing some songs that seem to have inspired quite a few Bollywood tracks that I have heard over the years'’, says Amrita who herself is quite fond of classical music.
‘’That’s right, I love classical music and it was irresistible for me not to return back to this old man in between my shots. I spent some real good time in just listening to what he was playing'’, smiles Amrita, ‘’What helped me further was the fact that all the lighter scenes from the film were chosen to be shot in dunes; hence it wasn’t difficult interacting with the locales.'’

2008 was an eventful year for Amrita Rao. She started off with ‘My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves’ which in spite of not doing well at the box office at the least helped showcase a different (read ultra glam) side of hers. A special appearance in ‘Shaurya’ followed but the role was so small that it went relatively unnoticed. However, she bounced back with ‘Welcome To Sajjanpur’ where in her ‘gaon ki gori’ role, she went on to win hearts all over again.
